Mar 18, 2026

The following images document the field work and community engagement FIC-Fighters’ work in Barreiro, Portugal, one of the case studies where the project explores innovative approaches to phosphogypsum management.

The gallery captures field research activities, site visits to the phosphogypsum stack—locally known as “Monte Branco” – and the surrounding riverfront landscape shaped by decades of industrial activity.

It also features moments from the November 2025 Citizen Workshop at the Public Library of Barreiro, where residents and local stakeholders gathered to reflect on the site’s legacy and imagine future possibilities. Together, these moments reflect the project’s integrated approach — combining scientific investigation with community participation to address environmental legacies and envision pathways for a meaningful regeneration.
