During the General Assembly of ALDA in Malta on 12-14 May 2026, the project FIC-Fighters was presented, highlighting its mission to valorise phosphogypsum (PG) waste into sustainable raw materials in line with circular economy principles.
The showcase focused on the presentation of the results from the local citizen engagement workshops coordinated by ALDA with the support of At Clave and implemented in Veles (North Macedonia), Barreiro (Portugal), and Negotin (Serbia). Through a participatory and inclusive approach, the workshops actively involved citizens and local stakeholders in identifying, mapping, and prioritising the risks and impacts related to PG stacks at the local level.
The presentation highlighted not only the main outcomes of the workshops but also the methodology used to foster local debate, citizen participation, and citizen science practices in support of the green transition.
The ALDA General Assembly 2026 also represented an important opportunity to disseminate the project’s activities and strengthen international cooperation, giving participants the chance to explore the opportunities offered by the project, including networking meetings, the Virtual Forum on PG, and several other collaborative initiatives.
